This was a really fun, unexpected surprise. An expensive surprise, but still a pleasant one. Without any kind of warning, I got an email. An email from Moleskine, saying that the second drop of The Lord of the Rings collection was live. Whut?! Of course I went straight to the website, and an order followed pretty quickly. This drop didn't have any notebooks, but it did have some additions.
The planners
Sadly it feels like a bit of a waste to now have two planners. I'd already bought The Lord of the Rings 2026/2027 planner, since that's the most practical one for me as a teacher. The front cover on this one is actually the same as another notebook within the collection. Which doesn't really matter, except now they have a whole different planner! This planner is only for calendar year 2027 though, so it's less practical for me. Let's just take a moment of silence to appreciate the front cover of this planner. The blue tones, the entrance to Moria, Gandalf with his staff, yummy yummy. As far as I'm concerned, a really gorgeous edition. Still looking for a planner and a fan of The Lord of the Rings? Don't hesitate, because my version is already sold out!
Then there's another planner that came out, also a variant typical for Moleskine. They released a daily planner. This means you get one day per page, instead of a week per page. This version comes with a cover featuring the Ents in Fangorn, together with Merry and Pippin. Also a genuinely gorgeous cover. I really hope both covers get used for other Moleskine products too!

The rest of The Lord of the Rings x Moleskine drop 2
Screaming, and mainly because of the accessories they released. That bag is just amazing! You also know it's good quality when it comes from Moleskine. That pen is also really cool, because it's refillable, so you can keep using it. Then there's the pencil set, which is fantastic if you draw a lot or like writing with pencil. Alongside these accessories, two bundles also came out. These are honestly perfect to give as a gift to a Lord of the Rings fan!
The Lord of the Rings backpack

Am I the ultimate nerd when I walk around with this backpack? Just wait until I also pull out the pen and a notebook from The Lord of the Rings. I think the green colour is really pretty and also versatile. Goes with a lot of colours! Then the silhouette of the Fellowship of the Ring is subtle, but still enormously iconic. By subtle I mean: even without a print across the entire outside of the bag, the message still comes across. On the flap is the Lothlórien leaf. Subtle again, but still iconic. I do love that they chose to do a print on the inside though. That print incorporates different silhouettes and uses subtle colours.
Now let's get practical. Is it a practical backpack? The backpack has a capacity of 13.5 litres. For my daily use that's not particularly much. My Peak Design backpacks are at least 15 litres and often even 20 litres. That said, a laptop up to 15" fits in the Moleskine backpack and there's a dedicated compartment for it. What makes me really happy is that there's a special little pocket in the backpack for a Pocket notebook, plus another for pens. On the outside of the bag there's also a zip pocket that fits a Large notebook exactly. So, do you see me walking around with that backpack on? Be prepared, because I'll be pulling a Lord of the Rings item out of every single pocket xD

The Lord of the Rings Ballpen & Pencil set

Did I need this? Of course not. Did I want it? Of course I did. Let's start with the fact that the pen writes really nicely and the ring feature is genuinely thick. Very honestly, I'm a tiny bit underwhelmed by both items. Both the pen and the pencil set come in packaging where only the cardboard sleeve is specially designed for The Lord of the Rings. On top of that, I've seen the Alice in Wonderland ballpen, and they really designed that one hilariously well. The pencils themselves, on the other hand, I do think are really lovely, and they fit really well with the vibe of the notebooks. They're genuinely beautiful, quality items, but I do wonder a little whether you're getting value for money as a Lord of the Rings fan.

Unfortunately only the pen is sold out in the meantime. The pencil set is still available. Don't have a notebook yet? Then they have a lovely gift set available with a notebook, the pen and the sold-out pins included!
The Lord of the Rings Cahier Journals

This set was already available, but I hadn't ordered it along with the previous one. The Cahier Journals are new to me, since I actually only use the Large lined notebooks. To lower the threshold for grabbing a Lord of the Rings notebook that's eventually going to need throwing away, I bought the Cahier bundle. It just feels a lot less bad when I scribble all over a Cahier Journal with less important notes.

The set contains three pieces. I genuinely think they're really well made. It's a budget-friendly way to own multiple items from the collection. It includes the Sam & Frodo version, a blue one with Aragorn, and a green one with Merry & Pippin. The set is still available for €27,- via Moleskine.
What are you going for?
